AVD Ep22: President Xi Jinping’s Third Term and Its Implications for Indo-Pacific Region

Guest Speaker: Dr. Joseph Matthews, Senior Professor, Beltei International University

Host: Ms. Chhoun Sreynou

At the recent 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, President Xi Jinping secured this place as president of the country along with his fellow allies in the top positions of the decision-making body. Even though this term’s presidency is predictable, what the president chooses to do remains sceptic and requires full attention, particularly from the country’s rival.

Additionally, this presidency has a very huge implication not only for the domestic politics of China but for the region and the world as a whole. The president has announced a number of tasks and initiatives for the five-year term, including the grand strategy BRI and the sensitive security issue of the Taiwan Strait. In this episode of Asian Vision Dialogue, we will discuss the implications of the power projection of China under the third term of President Xi in the Indo-Pacific region while also looking at China-Taiwan relations based on the recent local election results in Taiwan.
